We are proud to present MediaPortal 2.2.3
MediaPortal 2.2.3 is a full-blown media center software that addresses the most common user requirements out of the box. Besides its TV and Radio services it is also offering a complete media management for movies, series and music, including posters, album and fan art as well as additional metadata (e.g. actor, director and much more) that are automatically downloaded from the internet. MediaPortal 2.2.3 also provides access to online video sources such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. Integrated news, weather information and management for your digital images complete this software package.
This small update essentially addresses a problem in the TV area that was reported by some users. If you are happy with your experience there is no particular need to upgrade, although we also fixed a few minor bugs:
TV/Radio
Downgrade of TV Engine: MP 2.2.2 included an upgrade of the engine from the MP 1.22 to the 1.23 level. In rare cases this led to a stuttering playback and artifacts when playing LIve TV or recordings. MP 2.2.3 includes again the proven engine that was used in MP 2.2.1.
System
Subtitles: An issue that prevented the correct display of subtitles in MP windowed mode was fixed..
Series: The missing context menu at season level has been restored.
User Management: Logged-in users will be activated again upon resume if auto-login is selected
Extensions
MediaPortal 2.2.3's functionality can be further extended through the installation of additional plugins. The choice of extensions, while currently limited, is steadily growing. Discover what else is available in our Featured Plugins section.
Trakt
A new Trakt plugin has been developed with better sync and watched flags management, completely compatible with the new User Management system, allowing different trakt accounts for different users. The development of the plugin has been moved out from the standard Mediaportal 2 development. This will ease development and bug fixes.

Webradio
Webradio allows you to play internet radio without having to leave your familiar MP2 user interface.The plugin comes with over 10000's online radio stations from all over the world. Create your own filter from Country, City and any more. Make your own favorites list.
Moving from MP1 to MP2
Procedures to install MP2 in parallel to MP1 are described in the Wiki
For all those who would like to move from MP1 to MP2 and preserve their current media organisation, our forum member raffe has created a small tool that will extract information from your MP-TvSeries and MovingPictures databases and picture folders, The tool will leave all your original data untouched, create .nfo files for all your media and copy existing pictures from your MovingPictures and MP-TvSeries to your new MediaPortal 2 media folders. The .nfo files and pictures then allow a smooth and quick import of all your media info into MediaPortal 2. See thee respective forum thread for further details.

Today we want to commemorate one of our developers who has left us forever at the beginning of the year through his sudden death.
That's why we dedicate this MediaPortal release version to "regeszter" aka Attila, who spent a lot of time coding and with his innovative ideas made sure that you can enjoy a unique software - alone, with your family or with your friends.

It has been some time since last release, but we were intensively working on the implementation of new features and some fundamental changes in the core of MediaPortal 2. As a result, we proudly present the next major release of MediaPortal 2 in version 2.2.
MediaPortal 2.2 is a full-blown media center software that addresses the most common user requirements out of the box. Besides its TV and Radio services it is also offering a complete media management for movies, series and music, including posters, album and fan art as well as additional metadata (e.g. actor, director and much more) that are automatically downloaded from the internet. MediaPortal 2.2 also provides access to online video sources such as Amazon Prime. Integrated news, weather information and management for your digital images complete this software package.
There is a long list of changes – you can find all details in the end of this news – but the major changes in the following.
User Management
Thanks to user management you'll be able to create different profiles with different settings, different privileges, and different skins. Each profile will maintain its own set of watched status. The user management is a server side feature, meaning all the profiles are saved on the server portion of Media Portal 2 and then distributed through all the clients where the User Management Feature is enabled.

You can set a password and limit TV-groups, age rated content, access to media sources etc. by user. There are pre-defined user templates (Administrator, teenager, kids), which can be later further restricted or relaxed. User can upload their own profile pictures to customize their account. As a result, you can make your kids see only feasible content making Media Portal 2 the perfect family HTPC solution.

Importer
An overworked Data Base structure was introduced offering many improvements and features. It offers content group support for audio, stub support, user support, some new indexes for speed improvements, faster searching and correct ordering of artists, actors etc.
By adding an async task handling we could also avoid the second importer run known from MP2.1 and improve the resource usage in idle or during import resulting in a better performance.
The new DB structure is imcompatible with previous versions, but when upgrading Media Portal from a previous version the server will recognize old DB's from MP2.1.x and upgrade them automatically on first start. You will not loose any of your media items, watched status etc. An indicator in client informs you about the upgrade progress.
With Media Re-import it is finally possible to correct or adjust wrongly imported media items manually comfortably from within client. You can select the best result from auto matcher or manually search by media name or identification number (IMBD, TvDB, …). You can simply access the re-import feature from context menu of a focused media item.

Input Management
The previous Input Device Manager plugin has been completely rewritten, allowing now to control not only Key Management, but also Screen Management. You can now assign special shortcuts to switch from one screen to the other directly. (i.e. assign a special shortcut to jump to TV, or TV Guide)
The GUI for the Input Management is now much more intuitive and allows you to first chose the action and then the key combination to map to that action. It's now possible to see, remove or modify existing key mappings already assigned to a specific action quickly and more reliably.

Genre Management
Genres are managed differently now. During import genres are mapped to defined genre ID's, which can be localized with in client. There are VideoGenres for movies and series, AudioGenres and TVGenres. Unknown genres are also supported, they will be added additionally and are handled by their name during import.
As a result you may filter comfortably media items by genre ID and you are also able to see newly introduced genre poster as an eye catcher.

The TV part also shows genres now in case your EPG provider supports it. You can optionally activate EPG genre colors in TV settings and assign predefined colors to TV genres in all skins. The settings also allow you to map colors to genres to customize the EPG according your needs.

Stub Support
We implemented stub support for movies, series and albums. When a disc is inserted the matching stub will be found. A prompt will be shown to insert the media if disc is not found. Series discs that contain multiple episodes will be created as a multi part episodes. When using NFO files together with the stub files, the part will be read from the NFO file to generate media details.

Focus Handling
We have improved the focus handling in MP2.2. So far lists always start withed the focus on first item.
In long lists the focus is put directly on the selected item now and you do not need to scroll any longer through the list to find it
The focus behaviour for series media view is more intelligent and places the focus on the first partly- or unwatched media item allowing you to directly continue with the episode/season you new to continue
Skins
WMC Skin
We improved and expanded WMC skin features refreshing its style to look more modern.
Home Content
Home Content is offering quick and comfortable access to media items and further information in home screen, if activated in skin settings. You be able to see instantly the latest added media items continue watching the latest watched movies, see your favourite music, which you were playing frequently. You can also directly select current running TV programs or favourite TV-channels directly from HomeScreen. You can comfortably switch between HomeMenu and HomeContent with “info” (remote) or “I” (keyboard). It’s definitely a feature you don’t want to miss again.

Flag mover is a new plugin developed for MediaPortal 2.2 and newer versions. You'll be able to backup user specific watched flags (JSON format) and to restore/transfer them into a new clean installation.

This service upgrade fixes several bugs and introduces some new features:
Media Importer
We increased the speed and improved the stability of the importer process. We also removed OMDB from the list of online sources to choose from, as it is no longer free to use. A visual indicator has been added to each skin and theme to inform the user that an importer process is ongoing.
TV
We added the possibility to manually schedule recordings: schedules can now be defined for any channel by simply setting start and end times/dates.
The recording indicator that is displayed on each menu screen while the system is recording a show is now visible in all skins and themes.
A new setup option now allows users to change the logo style of TV/Radio channels. Besides a new channel group button to swich groups, we also added configuration options to define if name, logo and number of each TV channel should be displayed in the EPG
Video playback
A visual indicator will be shown when the playback is paused.
Fast forward/rewind now displays the speed of playback.
Weather
We replaced the weather provider WorldWeatherOnline by OpenWeatherMap. The Weather screen now displays a full seven days of weather forecast instead five.
Settings menu
The settings menu section has been overworked and now displays its entries in a more logical order and structure.

TV
MediaPortal can handle TV channels from satellite, cable, as well as DVB-T/T2 and IP streams. It includes an electronic program guide (EPG), recording scheduling and recording management. Logos for your TV channels are automatically retrieved and added to your TV database.

Media Management
All kind of media (movie, series, audio, videos, etc.) are automatically scraped. Respective online information (descriptions, covers, posters, fanart, artists, etc.) is downloaded and added to the central database. Users can define which online sources to use and what kind of data to download.
Local fanarts and descriptions from NFO files are also supported. Data can later be enriched with online information if desired.
Filter and Sorting settings that are available in all screens allow the definition of individual views for every kind of media. Different views can be set for each hierarchical level (e.g. Series/Season/Episode).
Localized language information will be used to retrieve Movie and Series data from Online sources. However, the original language will be used If files don't contain any local language audio stream. For example a movie that holds only French language streams will be displayed with its French title and summary even if the local language is English.
Music
Information is either read from tagged file data and/or downloaded from online sources. The integrated player displays album and track information together with fanart in combination with a dynamic equalizer visualization.

Movies
Movie information is imported including title, summary and other data such as director, character and actor.

Video Streaming Services
MediaPortal 2.1 supports online video replay through its inbuilt OnlineVideo services. A big number of online sources is predefined, among which YouTube and Amazon Prime.

** With these new functions you get a display of watched status/watched percentage in TV/Radio recordings (similiar as in MyVideos). Additionally, you may even reset the watched count to 0 (zero) if wanted. The skin DefaultWideHD already contains the necessary skin changes.

For use Bluray with BD-J support, Java 8 must be installed. We recommend the version Java 8u151 in x86 version.

MyVideos
We fixed some bugs with video views, especially collections, user groups and libraries. We also added new properties to display icons of movie awards, extended MPAA text and movie awards text. Skinners now have the possibility to add badges for collections, user groups, new and actualized movies, watched/unwatched movies etc. as overlays in nearly all layouts like thumbnailpanel, filmstrip and coverflow. DefaultWideHD already shows some of the new functions.
MyTV
The lists in TV Recordings now show the year of the recording, e.g. 12-03 2016 instead of only 12-03. We also added the functionality of moving or deleting channels from/to channel groups inside the GUI via context menu in TV EPG. We also fixed an issue that recording files were left open by the Streaming Server
MediaPortal General
We fixed the problem of scaling issues when using MP in windowed mode or other resolutions than the standard resolution of 1920x1080.
We fixed a proplem with Watchdog crashing on failure when trying to copy TV Server gentle.config as well as Watchdog not grabbing all TV Server configuration files.
We fixed an issue with MiniDisplay not showing the correct labels for the actual highlighted button or selected items in a dialog list.
MediaInfo
We updated the MediaInfo.dll to version 0.7.95.
Along with the above items we kept consolidating our software.

Attached to this news you will find the Pre Release version of MediaPortal 1.10.0. Pre Releases are provided as a way for the community to test and give feedback on all the exciting things we have lined up for the next release. We allocate about one month for Pre Release testing. In that time we only do bug fixes, and then comes the final release!
With this Pre Release we offer a number of Improvements and New Features. To name a few: We added a Volume Overlay that can be seen in all screens and the MiniDisply plugin was updated with the SharpDisplayManager driver.
Highlights of this release
Improvements
Windows-10You'll notice that after installing a dedicated TV Server, you now have the MediaPortal Extension Manager available to install the Server plugins. For the Client part we added the possibility to update MediaInfo in a selected folder, the option to re-create all/missing thumbs (including subfolders) in MyPictures, an SQLite Database integrity check and last but not least: This Pre Release can be installed on the Windows 10 Technical Preview!
Bugs
We also fixed a handful of Bugs like the warning for an incompatible skin, DVD resume, the Border selected program in the Radio EPG and we properly remove cancelled schedules from the TV database.
Because a lot of users reported issues with the MySQL upgrade path, we made some changes to this part. Existing installs still get the upgrade offered, but the database engine will remain as is (MyISAM). New installations will get the InnoDB database engine, since this is the default as of MySQL 5.6.

3720 - update of satellite transponders inside TV-Server Configuration is not working. We previously grabbed the transponder lists directly from the FastSatfinder.com website. Due to load issues this cause for FastSatfinder.com, this is no longer possible, and when you attempt to update them in 1.2.0 or ealier, all your transponder lists are deleted. The team from fastsatfinder has kindly agreed to continue support for us with updated transponder lists which we will host on our own web servers. So 1.2.1 will now download the transponder lists directly from our server. 1.2.1 has the latest Transponder lists integrated.
3723 - default graph behaviour for TV-Cards entering idle state is "pause" instead of "stop". In 1.2.0 we introduced a new feature that can decrease the time required to tune/change channels by not destroying the graph when the card enters idle state. The related "Advanced Tuning" options are "pause" (keep the graph) and "stop" (destroy the graph). Sadly, during a clean installation of 1.2.0, the default option was set to "pause". Although the "pause" option does give you the speed improvement, it is not supported by many TV-cards (drivers issue). Thus, in 1.2.1 the safer "stop" option is now set as the default. If you did a clean installation of 1.2.0 and now upgrade to 1.2.1, the current setting will change to "stop" for all your TV-Cards. This should ensure maximum stability for all users. If you want to use "pause" instead of "stop", then you have to reset that option in TV-Server Configuration.

This week Microsoft released the Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.
Besides many security fixes, and changes which are provided by Windows Update allready, it also includes many fixes which were not available through Windows Update, such as an fix for a issue with audiodevices connected by HDMI.
Team MediaPortal recommends the installation of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 on your HTPC.
For MediaPortal 1 this means that we have to release a very small hotfix, because with MediaPortal 1.1.2 and earlier versions, you will encounter a warning that you run MediaPortal on an not supported Operating System, as soon as you install the Service Pack 1 for Windows 7.
If you are not using Windows 7, then an upgrade to MediaPortal 1.1.3 is not required.

Since the last release our team was able to eliminate a lot of bugs in MediaPortal, TV-Server, Deploytool and the NSIS-installers.
Again, the great support from the community made this possible.
Special thanks to the users that took some time to test issues and create proper bug reports by following the Support and Bugreport guideline...
During the last testing period minor and major issues were reported. Sadly we have a few bugs in our current applications which we can not fix for the 1.0 release, because the potential fix would be so risky that it could cause a lot of other bugs.
This is one of the downsides of the current architecture, which we will get rid of in MediaPortal 2.
If you are interested in the list of currently known issues and for which version the fix is targeted, please take a look at the roadmaps of MediaPortal, TV-Server and the Deploytool.
