NoVirusThanks File Shredder Tool can permanently delete files on hard drives so that they cannot be recovered with recovery software.
Windows doesn't really make files disappear, instead it allows "deleted files" to be overwritten later. If the files are not overwritten in the mean time, they can typically be recovered easily by software.
It supports a single pass, 3 passes (DoD), 7 passes (DoD) and 35 passes (Gutmann). Obviously if you use the 35 passes it will take some time to completely delete a big file, but it is the most powerful method.
